Word of Mouth

Mechanical & Piping Detailing | AutoCAD Plant 3D

Word of Mouth Trading & Detailing supports mechanical and piping design teams with plant arrangements, piping general arrangements, 3D routing, mechanical fabrication detail and technical documentation for industrial and mining applications.

Our Pretoria-based drawing office supports Gauteng and wider South African mining and industrial projects, working remotely or alongside project teams as required by the agreed scope.

Our drawing-office focus is practical layout coordination: equipment access, route clearances, tie-in locations, support interfaces, drawing revisions and the information installation teams need to execute their work.

Mechanical and piping deliverables

  • Piping 3D models and arrangements: routing against equipment and plant layouts, section views, general arrangements and agreed line identification.
  • Mine services layouts: coordinated compressed air, water, drainage and other service routes where included in the approved scope.
  • Equipment and mechanical layouts: pump arrangements, tank interfaces, support frames, equipment GA drawings and component details.
  • Pipe support coordination: support locations and drawing interfaces with the approved structural design.
  • Drawing production: detailed orthographic views, isometrics where required and supported by the project setup, drawing registers and agreed bills of material.

Tools and model workflows

Depending on the client environment and scope, we use AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D and Autodesk Inventor. Before detailing begins, we confirm drawing templates, line classes, piping specifications, tag standards, coordinate references and any required vendor data.

For temporary CAD resource gaps, revisions or defined plant-drawing backlogs, see our outsourced drawing-office support for engineering and fabrication teams.

Coordination and engineering boundaries

Routing and drafting are not a substitute for hydraulic analysis, piping stress design, pipe support calculations or pressure equipment approvals. These remain with the responsible qualified engineering professionals unless expressly contracted and appropriately resourced.

What to send with your enquiry

Start with our mechanical and piping detailing RFQ checklist for P&IDs, piping classes, line lists, Plant 3D drawings, isometrics and review requirements. If your package includes structural steel or platework, the SMPP detailing scope checklist also covers multidisciplinary interfaces.

Include process and instrumentation diagrams if relevant, line or equipment schedules, vendor GA drawings, design and routing specifications, reference models, tie-in coordinates and intended fabrication or installation deliverables. Identify whether the package is a new system, brownfield alteration or as-built update.

Frequently asked questions

Can you prepare coordinated layouts from existing plant drawings?

Yes, subject to the completeness and quality of the available drawings, survey references and defined engineering design inputs.

Can you work on a specific pipe run rather than the whole plant?

Yes. We can scope a defined system, line grouping or drawing package with a deliverable register and agreed handover requirements.

Have a piping drawing pack to price? Include the scope, available P&IDs or piping GAs, equipment/vendor drawings and target issue dates. Supporting files can be emailed to info@wordofmouthtrading.com; the website enquiry form is for the project summary.
