Word of Mouth Trading & Detailing provides structural steel detailing and technical drawing-office support for mining, industrial, infrastructure and steel fabrication projects. Based in Pretoria, we support project teams and fabricators throughout South Africa and on selected Southern African projects.
Our focus is to turn approved engineering information and agreed client standards into coordinated 3D models and practical fabrication and installation deliverables.
Structural steel detailing services
- Tekla Structures 3D modelling of industrial steelwork, frames, platforms, equipment supports, stairs, ladders, walkways and access steel.
- Single-part and assembly drawings for fabrication, including identification, dimensions and connection detail as required by the approved design.
- General arrangements and erection drawings to help fabrication and site teams understand assembly positions and interfaces.
- Material and fabrication outputs such as bills of material, cutting information, and NC or DXF data when required by the project specification.
- Model coordination and revision control with engineering drawings, vendor equipment, structural interfaces and site changes.
Common work packages
We support structural steelwork associated with mine workshops and process plants, conveyor structures and access, elevated platforms, maintenance walkways, equipment skids, pump stations and industrial buildings. The exact detailing boundary is agreed against the issued drawings and project scope.
How a detailing package progresses
- Scope and document review: confirm approved design inputs, drawing register, client detailing standard, project priorities and hold points.
- Model development: build and coordinate steelwork in Tekla Structures with available reference models and interfaces.
- Drawing production: issue agreed GA, fabrication, assembly, single-part and installation documentation.
- Checks and review: incorporate checker and engineer comments, manage revisions and prepare release packages.
- Handover: deliver the model and agreed file formats, schedules and fabrication outputs.

Send the available structural GA drawings, connection requirements, material specification, expected deliverables, tonnage or scope extent, programme and drawing standards. If the package is at tender stage, identify which details remain provisional.

Detailing follows the approved engineering design and defined project responsibility matrix. Structural design calculations, design verification and professional engineering sign-off are not implied by a detailing appointment unless explicitly included with an appropriately appointed qualified engineer.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work with fabricators or directly with EPCM teams?
Both workflows can be supported. We agree the deliverable format, drawing approvals and model ownership with the contracting team.
Can you supply NC or DXF data?
These outputs can be included where applicable to the model and fabrication requirements; they must be checked against the project’s agreed manufacturing workflow.
Can you support urgent revisions?
We can assess priority drawing packages and revision requests against the current workload, information available and required delivery programme.
