Scope of Work and Details
Word of Mouth was commissioned to fully draught the Carnator energy harvesting system for Carnator. Our scope included:
- Creating a parametric 3D CAD assembly of mounting brackets, inverter housing and cable management trays
- Automating vent slot, mounting hole and gasket recess placement via Inventor iLogic based on voltage and form factor requirements
- Exporting CNC ready profiles and precise bracket plate layouts in AutoCAD
- Producing exploded view assembly drawings for electrical enclosure, heat sink integration and quick disconnect battery clamps
- Detailing wiring harness routing, cable entry glands and SABS compliant electrical interfaces
- Compiling a full Bill of Materials with SABS rated part numbers, material specifications and finish notes
Project Overview
Carnator is a breakthrough vehicle to home energy harvester that captures excess battery power from any modern car and repurposes it for domestic or off grid use. Our challenge was to translate this patented concept into a manufacturable system that fits beneath a vehicle chassis, interfaces with standard battery terminals and delivers stable AC output all while meeting strict SABS electrical and mechanical safety standards.

Design & Detailing
Using Autodesk Inventor, we created a modular 3D assembly consisting of mounting brackets, inverter housing and cable management trays. iLogic routines automated the placement of vent slots, mounting holes and gasket recesses based on user defined voltage ratings. We then exported key profiles to AutoCAD for detailed civil grade bracket plate layouts and wiring harness routing diagrams.
Each component was dimensioned for CNC machining or laser profiling, with exploded view callouts illustrating electrical enclosure assembly, heat sink integration and quick disconnect battery clamps. Our 2D shop drawings include section view details of gasket seals, performance rated fasteners and cable entry glands ensuring the workshop can move straight from file to finished unit without rework. Finally, we compiled a complete Bill of Materials with SABS compliant part numbers, material specs and finish notes.
The result is a turn key Carnator prototype ready for pilot production efficiently bridging automotive power and home energy needs with precision engineered design and fabrication documentation.
